The Szénások European Diploma Area is a particulalry interesting region regarding its landscape
history and conservation management. Due to the dolomite effect, a high diversity of plant and animal species
have developed in the varied landforms. However, owing to human land use, the landscape has been greatly
changed, and the natural vegetation has undergone drastic changes. Due to the intensive land use, eroded surfaces have appeared, which were afforested by non-native Austrian pine.
