The Historic Fort Churchill Ruins are located eight miles south of Silversprings, Nevada. The Fort was constructed in 1861 as a response to increasing disputes between settlers and local American Indians, it was an active U.S. Army fort actively guarding the Pony express and Overland Telegraph routes. The image here of the Mess Hall was photographed during an approaching autumn storm in October, which I had chosen as a specific time of the year selected based on the projection of the setting sun and the position of the structure during that time period. Weather conditions and lighting are among the most important considerations in landscape photography in the production of organic images at this historical Nevada location.
