This remote area of Death Valley National Park is covered on pages 135-139 in my landscape photography guidebook "Photographing California Vol. 2 - South".
The exposure was 1/320 of a second at ISO 200, f/8. This is a panorama of several shots captured at 280mm. the RAW files were adjusted in Adobe Lightroom and converted to black and white in On1 Silver Efex.
It had snowed on all the passes around us, and another storm was coming in that night. We had food and water for another day or two, but we didn't know when we'd have the next chance to get out. So we snapped a few more photos in the broken light, and made our way out over snowy road and washes that could be filled with mud in a few hours.
