Description

During this year's wildflower bloom in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, the peak bloom period coincided with the migration of painted lady butterflies. The painted ladies seemed to especially enjoy the desert sand verbena flowers, and congregated in areas where the sand verbena were abundant. This enhanced the experience of witnessing this glorious bloom: the smells were intoxicating, and the sights were incredibly gorgeous. I used a strong zoom on my SX60 (built-in telephoto) to capture this particular painted lady on a desert sand verbena flower.
