Description

The ancient bristlecone pine is the oldest living standalone organism on earth. Some of these trees are more than 4,000 years old. Given their great age, climate scientists have been able to use core samples from ancient bristlecone pines to help determine climate patterns over time and establish that global warming is, indeed, happening. So in honor of Earth Day, I submit this photo of an ancient bristlecone pine tree I encountered in Great Basin National Park.
