Emergence

Signs of life emerge in spring among the desert foothills of the southern Sierra Nevada. California poppies (orange) and phacelia (purple) dot the hillside. Meanwhile, southern Sierra peaks such as Owens Peak emerge from the landscape in the background. This particular shot offers a fresh perspective--the flowers in the foreground stand out, but depth of field allows all elements, including the distant peaks, to remain in relatively good focus.
