Description

At the end of 2017, we visited Saguaro National Park in southern Arizona for warmth, scenery, and photography. After a mostly cloudy day, the sky began to clear around sunset. This was perfect given that it was around the full moon--meaning it would be rising above nearby ridges at dusk and might allow for a silhouette of a cactus in front of the moon. I found a good position with a distant ridge to the east that had saguaro and ocotillo cacti on it, and waited. Sure enough, the moon rose above above the ridge. After adjusting my position slightly, I captured this photo of a saguaro cactus and ocotillo "branches" silhouetted in front of the moon. (Note: As should be clear in the description, this is a single image--NOT a composite.)
