It's Winter in Johannesburg. Temperatures go down into the high 30's at night and warm up into the low 70's during the day. In my book, perfect weather!
Joburg residents were "freezing", wrapped up in heavy coats, hats, and scarfs. Not so for the big cats! They seemed to love it. They would lay in the sun until too hot then reposition into the shade to cool down. All the while scanning the bush for their next meal.
This big lioness seemed to be sampling the air through nose and mouth for the scent of game when I took her picture. The above shot resulted in what looks like a lioness laugh of sorts.
No doubt some bit of big cat amusement over a past nocturnal hunt. "Man did that Spring Buck give us a run before I finally tagged him......... Good times! Tasty too!"
