While scouting this rocky coast of Kodiak Island's south shore, I noticed this lone eagle sitting atop a rocky stack surveying the sea for a potential meal. I knew I wanted the shale rocks leading to the sea stack to form a leading line. I also knew that if he spotted a fish he would immediately leave and if he was successful there was no guarantee he would return to this spot. It was early May and he likely would have a few hungry young mouths to feed. Since my camera setup was already mounted on my monopod it was easy and quick to frame the composition, set my exposure and make a couple of shots. Predictably, he was on the wing shortly after this capture.
