Notes

We wondered around Carvers gap jumping in the truck going from one place to the next. Since the temperatures were so low, we left our camera gear in the bed of the truck so that it would remain the same temperature. If we were to put the gear in the truck, it would fog up or even run the risk of tearing up due to the drastic temperature changes.

Description

It was the first snowfall of 2020 here in eastern Tennessee, Roan Mountain was getting hammered over night along with temperatures dropping to 10 degrees at night. My buddy Scott and I arrived around 5 a.m., we had planned on shooting a sunrise from the Appalachian Trail on Jane Bald, but due to extreme high winds and extremely low temperatures, we opted to play it safe and wonder around Carvers Gap. We went down the back side of the mountain or as many people say, the North Carolina Side and came across an opening that overlooked into the valley. A small, warm patch of light illuminated a hill out in the valley. The the warm tone leads you into the scene.
