Balanced Rock resides in Utah's famed Arches National park. It is a mixture of sandstone on top and mudstone on bottom. Balanced Rock's total height is 128 feet. The boulder's height is 55 feet and weighs 3,500 tons. The base of Balanced Rock is comprised of softer stone than the boulder, and it weathers more quickly. Eventually, the faster-eroding base will cause the collapse of Balanced Rock. This image was captured after sunset on the evening of January 19, 2020.
