Description

While the full Milky Way rules the night sky from April until late Autumn, Orion is clearly the (beautiful) symbol for the night sky during the winter months. I took this long exposure image from the beach in North Padre Island, Texas, and Orion ( including the Horse Head Nebula) is clearly dominant in the upper center of the photo. But I really enjoy the stark contrast of the pinpointy stars (and the lights of the fishing boats on the horizon) to the smooth surface of the Gulf, which was gently illuminated by a rising moon. Due to the long exposure the waves simply became a soft blur.
