Notes

Eleven by five mile Walker Lake is a remnant of prehistoric Lake Lahontan. Agricultural diversions from the Walker River have caused the lake level to drop 181 feet from 1882 to 2016. The Walker River now no longer reaches the lake in most years, and due to increasing mineral content and salinity, the native Lahontan Trout have been extinct in the lake since 2009.

Description

Warm evening golden hour light paints the high desert landscape over Walker Lake.
