Clouds are one of my absolute favorite subject and I have been photographing clouds for quite a few years by now. I even published a very successful, upscale coffee table art book - simply titled "Clouds" - featuring more than 100 of my best cloud images. I was taking photos of the night sky with the Milky Way in it, when suddenly a thunderstorm showed up in the distance. Lightning was quite dramatically illuminating a cloud from the inside - comparable to switching a bright flashlight on and off in a white pillow case. Luckily, the cloud moved to the end of the Milky Way and I decided to shoot a panorama (14 single shots merged) from right to left, ending right on the lightning cloud. In my opinion, the cloud at the upper end of the Milky Way - brightly lit from the inside by lightning bolts - clearly makes all the difference in this image.
