Description

Convict Lake is so named because of a 19th century prison break, in which the escaped posse tried to make it from Nevada to the western slopes of the Sierras. Several dramatic twists and turns ensued, along with a few shootouts. The prisoners were all eventually captured or killed, along with a number of their pursuers. A number of the surrounding peaks were named after some of the slain lawmen.
