Description

Not far from this lake lies one of North America's southernmost glaciers. Sediment from this glacier turns the water an interesting shade of turquoise blue. Nonetheless, the water along its shallow edge is clear enough to see rocks and boulders beneath the surface, as depicted here. The hike to this area is a pleasant one that offers the reward of numerous lakes--and eventually the glacier, if one pushes forward. John Muir Wilderness, Inyo National Forest.
