Description

Yellowstone is a geothermal wonderland and home to an underground "supervolcano." In short, underneath the surface lies a hot, fiery environment--and we see glimpses of that on the surface with hot springs, geysers, etc. To try to convey this concept, I visited the Black Sand Basin area of the park at sunset in an effort to capture orange clouds in the sky--reflected in its hot pools--with hot steam blurring the divider between the sky and the ground. I lucked out this particular evening, as puffy cumulus clouds turned orange at sunset and gave me the feel I was looking for.
