Wilderness can be more of a feeling than a geographic location with distinct boundaries. During the Pandemic, I have searched out nearby locations which give me that feel. It might be dramatic weather, lighting, or just complete silence that creates a feeling that wilderness brings me. This section of the Rye NH coast reminds me of the iconic Wave formation in the Southwest. Standing beneath the Gneiss and Schist intrusions of igneous rock felt like a wave of rock breaking over me. This was shortly after sunrise, complete silence except for the clanging sound of rushing water moving through the cobbled sea stones on the receding tide. While accessing coastal NH is much more challenging given the parking restrictions during the Covid era, it does add to the adventure.
