In the Sierra Nevada, there are many areas known for great wildflower blooms. One of those areas is around Lake Winnemucca in the Mokelumne Wilderness. I recently visited the area on a fine evening knowing that the chances for a gorgeous sunset were good given the satellite imagery from that afternoon. I drove the roughly 90 minutes from my house and hike up to the target area. Although flowers were only beginning to bloom, there were a few spots with nice paintbrush flowers. As the sun set, the clouds briefly matched the hue of the flowers, adding to the beauty of the scene.
