Surrounded by hundreds of acres of potatoes stands this one maple tree that has stood the test of time. As I walked the old farm road that winds around the headlands of the potato fields to find the perfect spot to capture this tree I can't help but think of the stories the farmer told me about the history of the tree. Back 50 years or so when the planting was done more by hand and not by the nice machinery we have today this tree gave shade for breaks from the sun, and shelter from a passing shower. It also gave a place for kids to play while their parents worked to get the crops in. I could almost smell the hot dogs being cooked for lunch and the laughter of the kids as they played and waited for lunch under this big tree. It was nice to be rewarded with a colorful sunset as the potatoes blossomed leading to the big maple that has stood through all of the years of change.
