Description

The marking in the rock behind this big male lion reminded me the rock art of the ancient indigenous people of the American Southwest. The shape in the rock bears an uncanny resemblance to the spirit shapes in the Great Gallery at Horseshoe Canyon, Utah. It felt like the big lion was being watched by his own spirit guardian. The rocky outcrop is in the Moru Kopjes area in the Central Serengeti, Serengeti National Park. The image was taken with a Canon EOS 7D Mark II with EF 100 - 400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS II USM lens, 1/200 second at f/6.3, ISO 125, 140 mm, hand held.
