Notes

The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is closed after dark, to prevent damage to the slow-growing pines, which are threatened by climate change. It used to be possible to get a permit to remain up there under certain conditions, but it's clear on social media (and when you visit under a permit) that so many people are ignoring the closure, and they were clearly going off trail, risking damage to young trees and to root systems of larger ones (such as this one), the USFS decided it was best not to allow most uses at night. Perhaps if they can install locked gates and trail cams to catch damaging un-permitted uses, they can resume allowing some permitted ones again.

Description

An image from my Eastern Sierra / Bristlecone Pine workshop last week, as a storm was breaking up and blue hour light was taking over.
