The Slink Fire started in Slinkard Valley, west of the town of Coleville in California's Eastern Sierra region.
The advancing line of fire being near a rule of thirds line and its smoke occupying the center box reinforces it as the subject. The background ridges appearing well above the rule of thirds line make the ridge, fire and smoke in that part of the image "loom over" the lights and implied people & residences in the foreground, adding to the story, and to the impact of the image.
The Slink Fire approaches Coleville on the night of August 31. Fortunately its advance toward the towns of Coleville and Walker was stopped, and the fire is most active out in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness now.
