Normally, the "small rains" in Tanzania start in November. The rains falls mostly as afternoon showers, with lots of sun in the morning and later on towards evening. But November 2019 was unusually wet. We were fortunate to find this brown hooded kingfisher drying off during a brief sun-break. He was perched on a low branch, and not at all concerned by my presence. I had all the time I wanted to compose the image. I took the picture with a Canon EOS 7D Mark II, with a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS II USM lens with a Canon 1.4x III tele-converter. The exposure settings were 1/800, f/8, ISO 160, focal length 560 mm, hand held.
