We left early in the morning looking for this very young baby black rhinoceros and her mother. The mother had not been seen for the last week or so. We eventually found the baby, but she was all by herself. We waited for several hours, hoping the mother would return, but her mother was gone. Our guide called in the park rangers while we stood guard. The baby stayed close to the truck, seeming to feel it offered protection. The rangers took over looking after the calf once they arrived. The baby was taken to a protected reserve where, we hope, she can be safely raised.
