My wife and I traveled to Monument Valley to photograph the park during the winter, when the crowds are far less and the low winter light makes the landscape less harsh. Since we had our bicycles with us, we asked the authorities if we could mountain bike through the park. They said that, while no one had ever asked to do so, we were welcome to do it. It was one of our greatest mountain bike rides ever. When I saw Ford's Point, that had been featured in so many western movies, I knew the image I had to have. I set up my camera on a tripod with the proper exposure, and rode out to the point, and had my wife take the picture. Instead of John Wayne on a horse for scale, it was me on my mountain bike. A fantasy fulfilled. Just a note, when our friends went back the next year, they were not allowed to ride their bikes in the valley.
