Description

This shot was taken at California's San Elijo Lagoon. I was at the Lagoon around sunset one day when I spotted this Great Blue Heron trying to swallow a fish about a third of its size. It was just the two of us there and it kept tossing the fish up to try to move it deeper into its throat. The process took about 20 minutes and I just kept snapping away. He eventually swallowed the fish whole and I got the shot I wanted of the ordeal. I guess this one goes in the "Animals do the most amazing things" category. Because of the low angle of the light at sunset the Heron was spotlighted beautifully for me during the entire session.
