It's always amazing how much information is captured in a camera raw image. This version of the image is very close to the way it was composed and looked in my camera's viewfinder. Even in silhouette if you love the birds in East Africa, you know this is a mated pair of Lilac Breasted Rollers. They were strengthening the bond by means of a tasty centipede. There is a lot of detail and color in the shadows that you can't see with this exposure. Bring up the highlights and shadows, however, and it makes a very nice, colorful low key image. I like the way the sunlight shows through the semi-translucent centipede. I took the image with a Canon EOS 7D Mark II, with a Canon EF 100-400 mm f/4,5-5.6 L IS II USM lens. The exposure settings were 1/500 sec, F/8.0, ISO 100, 400 mm.
