In the spring of 2019, I had the privilege of photographing a family of foxes that chose to den near my backyard. After spending hour after hour, day after day, and week after week with them, they were finally used to my presence, and one of the young kits felt comfortable approaching me. He slowly walked up to me, eventually coming so close that my camera wouldn't focus on him. I set down my hefty telephoto and just took in the moment. I could've reached out and pet him (I didn't!) if I wanted. After sniffing around me for a few minutes he darted off back to the safety of the den.
