Most of my images are the result of working a scene, even if it is while traveling. I make sure I am in an area for at least two or three days so I can return to a composition that I felt had potential under different conditions or perspective. Such was the case for this image in Olympic National Park. While hiking off trail through the dense forest, I came upon this view and ended up walking around the tree several time, being careful not to trample any of the ferns that I might want to include. I checked the direction the sun might rise and set using an app., imagining how the light might fall on the scene if rain gave way to some sun. I returned the next day and used some light from sunset and what I considered the most photogenic angle.
