It has long been a goal of mine to capture the setting moon above Mount Whitney and surrounding peaks. I planned this particular trip around this possibility. But when I arrived at the scene, it was clear I'd have to drive much further down the highway than I initially anticipated to line things up properly. Consequently, I hopped in the car and drove down 395 until I was in a proper position. I pulled over in a safe location, got out of the car, and set up to get this shot. This was a true example of "working the scene" to get all the elements to line up nicely--and I'm quite happy with the result.
