I came upon this composition while kayaking the many lakes and ponds near Rangeley, Maine. They each have their own personality - some grand with an ocean-like expanse to small and more intimate with hidden coves and islands. I knew I had found a vantage point for this tiny island that would work well for sunrise, sunset, or if interesting clouds were above. I returned many times in September and October for the different light and weather and the moods they created. This was a foggy morning in October, almost too much fog. The distant peaks were nearly obliterated by dense clouds at sunrise, but I waited a bit longer to catch the sun striking the peak foliage as fog lifted from the summits. Loons kept me company, as they did nearly every venture to this rocky prominence.
