The Steens Mountains seem a bit deceiving, for you don't know just how high you are until you peak over the edge of the East Rim. It was my first time visiting this area and had no idea what to expect but I was having fun exploring. When I made my way to the edge of the rim I gasped at the beauty and the layers of depth before me. Photography this scene was a challenge in order to show how high up I was and how far down it was to the valley. I chose to put the rocks that lined the edge of the rim into my foreground and continued through the scene capturing all the layers of rocks and ledges until your eye hits the valley floor.
