After a hot summer day in Aroostook County Maine I received a weather alert about an incoming thunderstorm that could impact the area. So I decided after watching the radar to travel 15 miles north of Houlton to Monticello where this field of sunflowers is located. As I arrived the sky looked pretty wicked but the rain was holding off. I set up the tripod and camera just as the sun poked out below the heavy rain clouds. Big drops of rain were starting to hit me and the thunder and lightening was cracking all around me! I fired off a bracketed set of exposures as the sky opened up and I ran with my gear to the truck and prayed I had captured the scene. It was one of the more exciting shots of my summer and worth every second.
