This image was captured on a moody late afternoon at McCoy Flat Reservoir in Lassen County, California, USA. More specifically, I captured the image standing in Bridge Creek, one of the small seasonal feeder streams that feeds the shallow flood control/irrigation storage reservoir. Both the creek and lake had dried up at the end of summer and were (hopefully) awaiting the coming winter precipitation. I was struck by the mood that was created when the warm golden hour light met the descending fog. Fog can for rapidly on this, and other nearby flats, as the temperature and dew point collide rapidly at nearly 6000 feet above sea level. The undisturbed recent snow put the icing on this beautiful cake!
