My wife and I took a small boat excursion off the coast of Namibia, partly to see some of the wildlife there. While we were cruising, one of the boat crew tossed fish to pelicans that glided alongside the boat. The fish and pelicans also attracted gulls. I climbed up on the boat as high as I could to look down on the birds and use the ocean as a simple background. I also tried to time the shutter release to catch a pelican as it opened its bill to catch a fish. I took this image just as a gull swooped in to snatch a fish mid-air. The action happened so fast that I didn’t see which bird ended up with the fish.
