Now just taking one quick look at this situation you would definitely think - that squirrel is doomed. Well, not so fast. My guess is an expert birder would recognize this hawk appears to be a juvenile. And so it would be, that it's hunting skills also sucked. This scenario repeated itself, sometimes many times a day lasting for at lease two weeks. We have three oak trees in our yard and lots of acorns so the squirrels never stopped what they were doing. This last fall, watching this unfold nearly every day was great spell-binding fun and I swear the squirrels were taunting this hawk just to have fun too.
