My new girlfriend had moved to my part of the world not long before we met. She was an outdoor photographer and we had spent quite a few dates with me taking her to different places I knew so that she could take pictures. About six months in she gave me her old camera and started showing me how to use it. Not long after we came across a pair of Mallards, the male with an injured foot and his girlfriend nearby. The pair posed in the light of the setting sun and the images revealed windows into the gentle souls of the ducks. As I was in love with my girlfriend, I now also fell in love with this new hobby while the words of Anthony Douglas Williams I'd once read now rang true in my heart, "When I look into the eyes of an animal, I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend. I feel a soul."
