In July 2020 Comet NEOWISE put on a dazzling show. I felt I needed to photograph it with water and no human-made lights or structures anywhere in the frame. Furthermore, I felt it would be great to have an "otherworldly" setting given the fact the comet was from out of this world. I decided Mono Lake would offer all of those elements. Mono Lake is about 3 hours from my home, so I left shortly after midnight and arrived at the South Tufa area of Mono Lake a little after 3am and began hiking to the shore. I set up in an ideal spot, captured some photos, and moved to other places along the shore to try out different compositions. This was my favorite shot. After photographing the comet and watching the sun rise, I hopped in my car and drove the three hours back home. Yes, I pulled an "all nighter" to get the shot, but I am happy I did!
