Description

Most people photograph dragonflies when the are sitting down. But the true fascination about dragonflies is their FLIGHT! No other living thing on earth can match the abilities of dragonflies when it comes to flight. Not even a hummingbird. Forward, backwards or sideways - dragonflies are a flying killing machine. They can even rotate every wing in different directions at the same time. Just imagine a human spinning arms and legs simultaneously in different directions - but at up to 2000 rpm.
In addition, these flying fortresses come with unimaginable eyesight, that breaks light down into millions of colors, have almost 360 degree Field-of-Vision and makes dragonflies - in combination with their incredible reflexes - such spectacular predators in the sky. It is fairly easy to get a nice photo of a dragonfly sitting down on a plant, but they are difficult to photograph while flying, due to their sudden shifts and incredible speed. Puts "fast focusing" into a new light, for sure. Anyway, after quite a few hours I was able to get this close-up shot - face to face with this alien-looking ruler of the shoreline... Enjoy!
