My wife and I traveled to Borneo to photograph the orangutans being rehabilitated back into the wild, as well as wild ones in the Tanjung Putting National Park, Kalimantan, Indonesia. I had a vision of trying to capture the essence of the “orang-u-tan” which translates “man-of-forest.” The first day we were there we were extremely lucky to see the dominate male of the area. The guides were extremely excited since they had not seen him in several weeks. He approached us closely enough that I was able to use my telephoto lens to capture this tight portrait of his face.
