Description

A trio of Sandhill Cranes (Antigone canadensis), part of a much larger group, glides across the mid-morning sky above the Wilcox Ditch, along Warner Highway in Hart Mountain National Anetlope Refuge, in southeastern Oregon. Sandhill cranes have red foreheads, white cheeks, and long, dark, pointed bills. In flight, their long, dark legs trail behind, and their long necks keep straight. The lead bird appears to be descending to land as its legs and bill appear to be dropping down.
