Description

American Crows (Corvus brachyrhynchos) are familiar over much of the continent: large, intelligent, all-black birds with hoarse, cawing voices. They are common sights in treetops, fields, river groves, shores and towns.
Sociable, especially when not nesting, crows may gather in communal roosts on winter nights, sometimes with thousands or even tens of thousands roosting in one grove.
In this image a pair have launced into flight while two other birds remain on the snow-covered tree branch.
