Description

A browsing Coues whitetail deer doe near Tucson, Arizona in the Sonoran Desert. Coues whitetails are a smaller desert subspecies about 30" tall; a large buck would be over 100 pounds. The subspecies is known for extreme wariness and living in inhospitable habitat in the southwest US into Mexico. Coues is pronounced “cows”, but most say “coos”; the subspecies is named after naturalist and Army physician Dr. Elliot Coues.
