Twin Lakes - located at the base of Colorado's tallest peak, Mount Elbert - is a magical place and seems to always have a surprise in store for visitors. I had camped the night before this morning at the edge of the lake to be ready at first light. So, there I was standing with my tripod and camera ready, waiting for the first rays of the sun. But, nothing. Dark clouds, grey skies. I was almost ready to pack up, when suddenly the clouds opened up a slot and the sun hit a small area at the other end of the lake, illuminating the colorful sides of the steep mountains. I got just a few quick shots in, and the magic moment was over. Glad I stayed... Please note that this is photo # 1 of two images I will submit. #2 was taken the next morning and was just as surprising to get as this photo.
