In the words of Anthony Douglas Williams, "When I look into the eyes of an animal, I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend. I feel a soul." Those words ring true in the concept I try to convey through my nature photography. In the eyes of an animal there is so much more than a creature existing; there is love, passion, ferocity, humility, humor... and in the case of this female Mallard, compassion. There was another Mallard nearby with an injured leg and she refused to stray too far from him. With this photo I wanted to not only capture her portrait, but the gentle love and compassion she had for her fellow being. In her eye I saw a creature who was both thoughtful and gentle. This was the photograph that inspired the passion of my photography.
