In the words of Anthony Douglas Williams, "When I look into the eyes of an animal, I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend. I feel a soul." Those words ring true in the concept I try to convey through my nature photography. In the eyes of an animal there is so much more than a creature existing; there is love, passion, ferocity, humility, humor... and in this photo of a male Ruddy Duck, a sense of stoicism. It reminds me that even in the eyes of the smallest of creatures, there can be a reflection of our own thoughts and feelings. That a simple portrait of a bird can represent a feeling of the greater world and, in spite of the troubles we may endure, we can do so with a sense of bravery and humility that goes beyond our small selves.
