Description

I took off north from Los Angeles on a Friday night for the upper Owens Valley to try and get a capture of the new moon as it set over the Sierra Nevada mountains. I decided on my way up that the best composition would be over the crest of the Sierra there by Bishop. As I approached Bishop I kept my eyes peeled for one the side roads that would take me out past the obstacles that get in your way as you near a human settlement like power lines and other signs of human civilization and I found a road that looked very promising and went out on until I found a spot to my liking. I set my tripod up, choose to use my Sigma 150-600mm C super telephoto lens and waited for the moon to get to just the right spot and spot metered the moon to make sure I exposed properly for it and was still able to keep Mt Tom bright enough that I preserved the detail in the mountain and yet also kept the detail in the face of the moon.
