I traveled to Haines, AK specifically to photograph the bald eagle congregation. The eagles congregate to eat the dead and dying salmon after the late spawning run up the Chilkat river. After a few days of photographing eagle interactions, conflict, and flying overhead, I wanted to try to capture an image of eagles flying at eye level. I found an open area where eagles periodically flew close to the ground as they came in to land near the river. I found a depression and sat down on a pad in the snow between a couple of concealing snowbanks and waited for the eagles to fly by. This was my best image of an eagle as close to eye level as I could get.
