I spent 8 days diving with manta rays in the Socorro Islands of Mexico. As with many of my wildlife shots, I like the challenge of getting an up-close portrait. This turned out to be quite a challenge with Mantas. They swim over you, under you, and all around you, but not straight at you. Which is a good thing, since one actually swam right into my wife which sent her tumbling through the water. I was able to capture this image by just sitting down on the bottom near a manta cleaning station. This manta swam right over me allowing me this close-up photograph.
